How to Find Customers

After we lost our largest customer in 1991, we decided that we needed to develop an effective tool to use to attract new customers. We created our own direct mail program offering a free gift and using a bounce-back card like the ones below. This concept was unique to the industry and helped us stand out from our competitors.

We research companies in our area, call to get the name of the appropriate contact person, and then send them a direct mail piece that includes a bounce-back card. Our free offer–a gift for a returned card–insures a high rate of return (on average 10%) and a constant source of leads

The free gift offers have included a pair of Fiskars® scissors, a Sheaffer® pen, a Howard Miller® clock, an American flag gym bag from Neely Manufacturing. We apply mailing labels and postage to the cards and then mail a card to each prospect several times.

When a card is returned, we personally visit the respondent to deliver the gift. During the last sixteen years, this direct mail program has generated over 250 new accounts.
